Based on history, there were political icons and high members of society who were believed to be kidney stone formers. Kidney stones are formed crystals and other minerals inside the kidney or the urinary system. The symptoms for this condition are pain, fever, nausea or vomiting.   

For some unknown reason, compared to the popularity of sneakers in the year 2019, the formation of kidney stones became an important part of history. In fact, there are members of the royal family and military leaders weakened by this medical condition. Including these well-known individuals are Napoleon III of France and Nicias, the Athenian leader during the Sicilian Expedition. During their times, the condition of kidney stones formation is a debilitating one as they were not yet aware of what to drink for kidney stones.

List of Politicians and Other Society Leaders Suffered from Kidney Stones

To enlighten us with some details of the past, here is the list of political leaders and military commanders who were impaired by kidney stones.

Oliver Cromwell

He was a political leader and at the same time, part of the military. In the year 1650, Cromwell experienced suffering from kidney stones.

James Wolfe

Wolfe was a British General diagnosed with kidney stones before the start of the Battle of Quebec.

Indira Gandhi

This Indian Prime Minister experienced severe stomach and back pain. After being diagnosed with kidney stones she had it removed in 1960 through surgery.

James K. Polk

Because of the dangerous surgery in removing the stone from Polk’s perineum, he was unable to conceive a baby.

He was the 11th President of the United States and already had kidney stones when he was still young. He went through lithotomy, without any anaesthesia, to remove his urinary stones when he was only 17 years old. 

Sukarno

The Indonesian first President, Sukarno, endured pain brought by recurrent kidney stones. He forcefully sought medical treatment twice in which the last was to remove the stones.

Ratko Mladic

Mladic was a military leader of the Bosnian Serb. In the last year of the conflict between Serbia and Bosnia in 1995, he had kidney stones surgery in Belgrade.

Lyndon B. Johnson

One of the President of the United States, Johnson had kidney stones for numerous times. He was hesitant to have treatment due to its possible impact on his political career.
